Statewide Drought Level 1 Declared

Apr 28, 2026

On April 27, 2026, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) issued a statewide Level 1 Drought Response due to ongoing dry conditions and impacts on water resources.

As part of this declaration, public water systems are required to share information with residents about drought conditions and the importance of water conservation through various communication methods.

At this time, outdoor water use is still allowed and remains unchanged under Level 1 guidelines. Watering is permitted between 4:00 PM and 10:00 AM, and no additional local restrictions may be imposed without state approval.

EPD will continue monitoring drought conditions using factors such as rainfall, stream and reservoir levels, and groundwater data.

For more information, please visit the Georgia EPD website.

Water Conservation Tips

  • Regularly check for and repair leaks inside and outside your home.

  • Turn off the tap while shaving, brushing your teeth, washing your face, or rinsing food.

  • Only water your lawn and landscape when necessary, and adjust sprinklers to avoid watering sidewalks, streets, or buildings.
